One of the biggest web hosting companies in the world, GoDaddy, has announced the termination of 8% of its staff, equivalent to about 530 workers in total. In an internal email shared by GoDaddy CEO Aman Bhutani with his team members, he expresses his gratitude to those who will be leaving. The majority of affected positions are in the United States, and they touch all organizational levels and divisions.
“During the last year, we worked hard to deliver value for our customers and results for GoDaddy,” said GoDaddy CEO Aman Bhutani. “Despite increasingly challenging macroeconomic conditions, we made progress on our 2022 strategic initiatives and continued our efforts to manage costs effectively. The discipline we embraced was important but, unfortunately, it was not sufficient to avoid the impacts of slower growth in a prolonged, uncertain macroeconomic environment.”
Last Wednesday, a meeting invitation was sent to the impacted team members by their leadership so they could learn the specifics of their transition, which would be in line with regional hiring procedures.

The planned impacts would also include ongoing work to more deeply integrate three of GoDaddy’s separate brands into GoDaddy, namely Media Temple, Main Street Hub, and 123 Reg.
Customers and team members of Media Temple are already aware of the switch to GoDaddy infrastructure as the company moves to retire the brand. Customers of Main Street Hub and team members are aware of the ongoing shift of Main Street Hub clients to GoDaddy products. By March 1, 2023, team members will get updates as GoDaddy goes forward with the migration. 123 Reg would continue as a customer-facing brand and take full advantage of what GoDaddy offers in terms of technology and capabilities. GoDaddy will let any impacted team members know by March 1, 2023, if any 123 Reg jobs may not be needed longer-term.
GoDaddy will offer those who are fired a transfer package, in line with local laws and customs. This will include 12 weeks of paid administrative leave with ongoing core benefit coverage in the United States. Departing GoDaddy team members will also be qualified for extended healthcare benefits, outplacement assistance, and immigration support to ease their transition, as well as two additional weeks of severance pay for every year of employment (with a minimum of four weeks).
“I want to express my gratitude to those who will be leaving,” said GoDaddy CEO Aman Bhutani in his team message. “You played an important part in our journey and helped entrepreneurs around the world achieve their dreams and build successful microbusinesses. Every day, you made a difference for customers and your teammates. While our paths diverge today, I wish you well and hope our paths cross again.”
