Hello! So I am getting into the web design business officially and need some advice. I currently have a shared hosting plan at namecheap and am satisfied with namecheap in general- I’m probably going to switch to their $6.88/month/yearly VPS and then upgrade to their next tier if I need it eventually. I’m going with it being managed by me. I actually love Linux and know my way around it and will put CentOS on there. I’m thinking instead of $10/month to get cPanel I’ll be going with ApisCP for my web panel. I’m really only going to be using the HTML and WordPress databases right now.
The better VPS on namecheap includes reseller options. It says it has: “Root / reseller depending on server management type”. Which also brings up can I make my own “reseller” plans with my VPS? If so, how would I go about doing that? Does that just mean I can make a domain name use cPanel or something and let the user have access to it?
(stupid question) The VPS will be faster than shared right? – I’ve read on here that I might as well just buy a cheap dedicated server instead of sharing it’s resources or something. – Am I doing overkill and should I just stay with the shared plan? I may do like 2 sites a month to start out. I want to be prepared though.
Any suggestions and personal opinions about what I plan on doing would be appreciated. – I don’t know much about server hardware
Thanks!
