It would appear that Lenovo has a known issue they’re not addressing in desktop towers, and it rears it’s head almost invariably after the 1 year warranty expires, based on searches of the issue. Virtually every incident was between 18 months and 2 years from purchase. To get any help directly has them insisting you purchase a warranty and send in the PC for repairs.
Strange coincidence?
The issue is at some point you will see a fan error (#0135) preventing Windows from starting. Might be just the CPU fan, or can involve one or more of all the fans in the case (which all work). The recommendation is to bypass using F2 and once in Windows do a BIOS update. Unfortunately, F2 produces “BiInitializeLibrary Failed 0xc0000001” or a variety on the error number and Windows won’t load. That error prevents all attempts to reach Windows, and any advanced troubleshooting and so on. It’s a brick.
The solution, should you pay for warranty service, is sending it in and they will replace the mobo and possibly the CPU, and flash to the latest BIOS. On average, about a month’s wait. This will only forestall the next time it occurs, because that latest BIOS (ends in 29) also has the same issue after a while. Most users stated the 2nd and ultimately fatal occurrence happened within a few months at most. It’s suspected something in a Windows update is what’s breaking it, since it most often occurs just after one.
The only real solution appears to be replacing the mobo with a compatible one (not from Lenovo) which also requires a cooler for the CPU since the proprietary Lenovo mobo has proprietary fan mounts for the CPU cooler. On a system not quite 2 years old.
