We will be putting our own server in a data centre using a colocation service. Our server and our physical SonicWALL hardware firewall will both be stored in a strong server steel safe that will be locked by a PIN number. The 60kg safe will be put inside our half rack at the data centre. We wanted to ask what are the methods or ways that an employee of the data centre could steal our sensitive data that is stored on our server? Could such employee steal the entire safe via an inside job and shred the CCTV evidence somehow? Could such employee find out our public IP address and hack through our firewall from the outside (i.e., from an internet cafe)? Could such employee find out our public IP address as this info would be known by the data centre IT staff and hack through our firewall from within the data centre premises? What are some other ways that an employee of the data centre could steal our firm’s sensitive data stored on our server located in the data centre?
