Alex Wessel has been appointed as the new Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Leaseweb, a prominent supplier of cloud services and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). He will lead centralized teams at Leaseweb headquarters, including those in charge of project management, security, policies, and procedures for the entire organization. He brings with him fifteen years of experience in mission-critical environments and six years of managing high-performance data center environments.
In order to promote service quality throughout all of the company’s locations, Wessel will also collaborate closely with operations directors from various Leaseweb businesses in his new position. Regardless of location, he will concentrate on promoting standardization and guaranteeing a uniform experience across all services. Wessel started his career in the Royal Netherlands Navy as an engineering officer, where he focused on high availability of vital infrastructure and developed a strong operational mindset. He then transferred to Global Switch, where he was in charge of the company’s Amsterdam campus’s technical upkeep and incident response. The basis for a career characterized by proficiency in critical infrastructure, high availability, and a thorough comprehension of customer risk mitigation was set by this early experience in one of the most well-known colocation data centers in the Netherlands.
Additionally, he managed operations across expansive campuses in Amsterdam, Brussels, and Barcelona while holding regional leadership positions at EdgeConneX. He developed invaluable experience working across cultures and geographical boundaries to provide sophisticated, large-scale services while serving demanding hyperscale clientele. Prior to joining Leaseweb, Wessel led teams in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Switzerland while working for nLighten.
“I was already familiar with Leaseweb’s reputation from previous coworkers and business partners,” stated Alex Wessel, COO of Leaseweb. The company’s robust culture, the scope and variety of its activities, and the chance to be a part of an organization that so many clients depend on to manage their main business processes were what drew me in. The world of data centers is quite dynamic, and I’m interested to see how innovations like artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things will influence consumer demands. Additionally, I think that as data sovereignty gains importance, we’ll witness an increasing trend toward local service providers.
Leaseweb co-CEO Svenja de Vos stated, “Alex brings a very strong combination of operational discipline, technical depth, and customer focus, all of which are essential to Leaseweb’s continued growth.” He is a perfect fit for this position because of his systematic approach to critical infrastructure and his experience managing global infrastructure, from high-density facilities to customer-centric operations. We are thrilled to have him join the team and are excited to see how he will influence our worldwide operations.
