A key milestone in the development of Ghana’s digital infrastructure has been reached with the launch of a new collaboration between the London Internet Exchange (LINX) and the Internet Society’s Ghana Chapter (ISOC Ghana). The initiative aims to strengthen the region’s internet ecosystem through the establishment of a new interconnection hub, LINX Accra, and through broader community capacity-building programs.
As part of its continued expansion in Africa, LINX has confirmed a partnership with global data center operator Digital Realty, which will host the new exchange at its soon-to-open facility ACR2 in Accra. Located strategically near multiple submarine cable landing stations, the ACR2 data center is positioned to serve as a major connectivity gateway for West Africa. Ghana already benefits from six undersea cables and is considered one of the continent’s most internationally connected nations.
LINX Accra is expected to go live in the coming weeks and will be LINX’s third African exchange after Nairobi and Johannesburg. The new IXP aims to enhance network performance, reduce latency, and improve cost-efficiency for local and global service providers operating in the region. It supports LINX’s broader mission to promote open interconnection and boost digital resilience across Africa.

Through this collaboration, LINX and ISOC Ghana will roll out technical training programs, networking events, and knowledge-sharing initiatives designed to support local stakeholders and nurture technical talent. The Ghana Network Operators’ Group (GhNOG) Workshop, a flagship training event hosted by ISOC Ghana, will be a key part of this effort, offering a platform for industry collaboration and skills development.
Nurani Nimpuno, LINX’s Head of Global Engagement, described the partnership as a shared commitment to making the internet more robust and accessible. “We are excited to work with ISOC Ghana to help strengthen local capacity and provide a high-quality, scalable interconnection platform,” she said.
ISOC Ghana Chapter President Maud Adjeley Ashont Elliot welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to create new opportunities for education, impact, and long-term growth. “LINX’s presence in Ghana energizes our mission and enhances our ability to support the local internet community,” she noted.
With the opening of LINX Accra, Ghana is poised to become a central node in West Africa’s growing digital economy. LINX and ISOC Ghana hope their joint efforts will position the country as a future leader in regional internet connectivity and innovation.
